Teacher Assistant Networks -
The RI Department of Education sponsors regional networks to provide teacher assistants the opportunity for professional development and the chance to network with teacher assistants from other districts. Networks meet three (3) times each school year (Fall, Winter and Spring) reaching 200+ teacher assistants each “season”. These are located in Providence and at RI’s 4 Regional Educational Collaboratives: East Bay (Warren), West Bay (Warwick), Northern (Cumberland) and Southern (North Kingstown) regions. Training topics are based on annual needs assessment. Sessions are 4:00-6:00 with light refreshments. Participants are provided with a certificate of attendance and a RIDE Professional Development (PD) Credit Report at each session. They should follow district procedures for PD verification (check with your local teacher assistant contact on what these are. To access a listing of local teacher assistant contacts is on this website on the Networking webpage, click here). This might be having the teacher assistant submit a certificate, RIDE PD credit report or other materials to someone at central office. Teacher assistants should use the RICERT TA system to document their PD. To access a worksheet explaining how to do this is on this website on the Resources webpage, click here and download a handout, Worksheet for PD Activity Documentation on RICERT TA. The district uses RICERT TA and the teacher assistant's documentation to verify the teacher assistant's PD.
